At the Ohana Christmas lunch
Coming off the previous Volnay, I was super apprehensive. This was the far cheaper bottle, and as we poured out the glasses, its super pale and light bodied color only intensified my disappointment. Thankfully we were good.

In the glass – this was a very pale ruby with a touch of brown. Super light bodied.
On the nose: typical barnyard funk, an aromatic red fruit with that distinct stemminess that almost smelled a touch herbal/medicinal (in a good way).
On the palate: mid+ finish, silky tannins, and pure red fruits + spice on exhale that lingered for a while.
I thought the wine was delicious with a fair bit of complexity to the nose that made me sniff it a ton. That said, it doesn’t quite have that stunning silky smooth milky tannin/body that I’ve encountered in some of my recent top tier Volnays.
