At Zi’s birthday celebration. Wine was courtesy of James

I know absolutely nothing about this winemaker, but was very very impressed.

In the glass: this was a dark rich red garnet, with medium body.

On the nose: this was by far, THE MOST balanced and finessed use of oak amongst all the Sangiovese we’ve tasted tonight. The first note was not oak – rather we get a dense aroma of red fruit first and foremost, followed by a light vanilla and woodiness. Mild earthiness.

On the palate: mid+ acidity, and spices on exhale. Long finish. Tannins were smooth on entry, but become quite resolved on the tongue after swallowing. I found this to be a juicy chewy wine. Noice.

It’s actually remarkable how fresh and much fruit this bottle retained, despite being 13 years old. While there were just a tiny hint of age with that earthiness, the wine still drank super young with that bright intensely aromatic fruit.
That said, I once again detected quite a fair bit of residual sugar. I can’t tell if I’m going crazy at this point, as I’ve rarely ever complained about residual sugar when drinking Brunello. To consult the boys later on. Otherwise, would’ve been tempted to rate it a 4.5.
