Marked down from 4.4 because of price. At the Ohana NYE countdown party.
This was the final bottle of the night, as part of my resistance against taking shots hehe (I succeeded). There were some concerns that we wouldn’t be able to fully taste/appreciate it, given we were coming off the Emidio Pepe and the Pontet Canet. But I thought we should be fine with a 1er cru CM – it should have enough concentration… right…?
Thankfully the gamble paid off. Off the bottle with no decanting.
In the glass, this was a fairly dense bright ruby. Medium bodied.
On the nose: a rich and sorta dense dark cherry, with a significant barnyard-ish layer that was very prominent, yet didn’t come across as being obtrusive. In fact, that gaminess works so well with that dense red fruit. Certain other notes that I don’t quite have the vocabulary for. Oak at the background.
On the palate: high acidity, mid body with a nice richness that coats the palette. Longish finish, with a long and very aromatic exhale.
30 mins in the glass, and the nose really bloomed. There’s a rich sweetness, the emergence of cranberry and orange peel on the exhale.
This wine is so so so young, but already tastes delicious. Could really be quite amazing with some age.
Decided to mark this down significantly from 4.4 after finding out it’s $220 in Singapore retail.
