3.7. Bodega Numanthia 'Termanthia' Toro 2015.

Bodega Numanthia’s Termanthia 2015. With Hart et al.

This is another BIG INTENSE muscular wine. The host was eager to share his love for Spanish wines, and wanted me to try this Tempranillo from the Toro region. Apparently the soil there is remarkably fertile, because of all the cow poop from the cow fighting ages.

In the glass: this was a deep dark concentrated red. Super high concentration and extraction.

On the nose: intense dark fruits – seemed to be blackcurrant dominant. High alcohol again, im guessing at least 14%, even before the palette. Vanilla, oak, and an earthiness.

On the palate: thankfully this was much leaner on the palette than the nose would’ve suggested. Mid acidity, mid- finish. Highly aromatic black fruits that lingered in the nose after swallowing and exhale. Alcohol on the exhale.

By this time (2nd wine), it dawned on me why Luis stated emphatically that Pinot Noirs are weak and incapable of being powerful earlier. I suppose if BIG ROARING Malbecs and Tempranillos are the yardstick, then I suppose? Hahahah. BUT damn, finesse and balance is NOT a thing with these nukes.
