Hard to resist the temptation of an aged Riesling, but this always comes with some risks. This was probably quite a bit past its prime.
In the glass: bright rich gold. Clear.
On the nose: fairly mild/faint stoney minerality. Not much to speak off initially.
On the palate: sweeter side of off-dry. Distinct dried apricots initially. Just the tiniest bit of honey. The thing that stood out was the silky texture on the tongue.
With about an hour, the honey and apricot intensified a touch, and the wine developed a sorta caramelized apple note to it.
Given that it’s my first time trying this wine, its hard to tell if the wine had lost most of its acidity through age, or it simply didn’t have the bright acidity that I love so much about rieslings to begin with.
Still enjoyed it thoroughly though!
