I’ve only ever drank a birth year wine twice in my life. The first was a Pontet Canet at Gabriel Kruether, selected by Brandon. The second was a Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot that @mr.benong gifted me for my last birthday. Birthday wines are just such, idk, pure indulgences.

In any case, Ben chanced upon a case of 1989 Latour on auction. Yep. Yeeeepppp. From a private collector in France. From a reputable platform with provenance supposedly guaranteed.

The fill line is low, but consistent with any 36 year old bottle. In any case, I broke my MO and decided to get in on 2 of these.

The case arrived and payment was due. Then outta nowhere Ben tells me him and SM were gifting us a bottle for our wedding. HUH….? What an obscene gift??

Ben’s a. Interesting fella. He’s one of the very few person in my life who persistently shows me excessive “undeserved” generosity. It’s always self-initiated. He never expects anything back, even when his cumulative gestures shadows mine maybe 50:1. I’m very quietly thankful.
