With Hart, James and Zi at the @emidiopepe tasting dinner.

What a treat, and what an odd ball of a wine.

In the glass: rich bright garnet, with fading around the rim. Mid-body.

On the nose: this was. A lot of things. Dried shiitake mushrooms. An intense lift of balsamic x incense. BIG waft of DRIED FIGS. This was intensely aromatic, and very very interestingly odd. Aged.

On the palate: a surprisingly mid++ acidity with high intensity of dried fruits. Long finish. Mid bodied.

I have to say, I don’t know if I would want to age the 2001 much longer. It still has the sheer intensity of fruits and acidity to develop further, but I personally found the aromatics to be weeeell into the aged tertiary zone.
