I can emphatically tell you that the number of times a pure (non ultra premium) Cab Franc has impressed me is exactly 0. I mean, they’re alright, but just never spectacular.

But there’s also this cluster of drinkers who will tell you that pure Cab Francs can be some of the most beautiful reds out there. Or that Clos Rougeard is literal magic in the glass. Or that pure cab francs are what burg drinkers wish Bordeaux would be.

I don’t get it.

So I bugged @nicolasplaurent for some education and some recommendations, since he is one of those who adore the grapes.

Meanwhile, we have a dinner schedule at @nicolaslerestaurant this weekend, and I’ve confirmed that there are some Clos Rougeard in the cellar. He he he he he
