With Hart, Sloke and YZ at Sloke’s.
A random mid day tasting after a tough week at work.

WHAT A TASTY LITTLE GEM. but this requires an obscene amount of air to wake up.

Slox oxed in bottle for about 1.5 hours. Then left to breathe in a narrow decanter + in the glass for another 2 hours. This wine only really bloomed towards the end, and could probably use even more air.

In the glass: a rich ruby with a ton of purple. Giant meniscus with zero sign of age. Mid body. Seemingly well extracted.

On the nose: a journey. Into the glass, this was meek but hinted at this sweet currant, black cherries and this spicy floral almost violety note. It took HOURS to coax the bouquet out – but when it did it was glorious. Sweet aromatic dark berries and currants intensifying, a herbal lift, and this slightly green tone that reminded me of green bell peppers – but it’s hard to explain it. I DO NOT enjoy pyrazines at all in my wines, but this was just. Very pretty. By the end, this was a very pretty and aromatic bouquet of dark berries.

On the palate: my gosh. This was just stunning from the first drop. Splash of residual sugar, and this intensely concentrated bloom of black and red berries. This was fresh, bright, juicy, and had this great concentration and clean body. And man, that finish… such immense length. So lush, so silky.

I wish I have a case of this to age. This was really beautiful. That palate is just stunning.
