4.3. Domaine Duroche 'Les Jeunes Rois' Gevrey-Chambertin 2019.

Dinner party at mine, with Hart, SP, Tabs and KT. Courtesy of KT. This one was too easy: on the nose it was straight red fruits (cherry, and ALMOST raspberry), barnyard / mushroom funk (distinct, but not overpowering), and high minerality. Funny enough, I’ve always associated minerality with the iron-ish smell of blood, or distinct memories of me falling in the sand in playgrounds, but KT described it as “metallic” and I think I have a new descriptor. On the palette: very high acidity, light to mid body, bright red colored. The finish was interesting. Again, I felt that we shortchanged the wine a tad and didn’t let it decant enough, BUT I got to experience the wine develop its body in the glass, and the finish went from long, to very long. Couple that with the high acidity, it was a very juicy wine. Delicious, although I’m not sure I would drop that kinda money.
