Unrated. Chateau Maillet Pomerol 2020.

Bought it at the recommendation of TWH. Ch Maillet is quite literally a stone throw away from Petrus on the Pomerol Plateau, and allegedly enjoy similar terroir. It was a bitch to source in Singapore. In any case, in the glass, it was a deeeeep beautiful hue of purple with medium heavy body. On the nose, it was beaaaaautiful. Blackcurrant, chocolate, and get this: butter. Yes. Like rich almost cultured butter-like. Super delicious.

BUT ALAS lmao. We committed infanticide on this fella. It was simply far, faaaaaar to young to be drank. I knew it was gonna be too young, but I was an idiot and got impatient. Tannins were extremely structured, and just aggressive. High acidity. On the tongue: the tannins and acidity overpowered most other aspects of the wine’s body itself. That said, while this was high alcohol at 15%, it was actually very well integrated.

This sounds like a cop out, but I’m leaving this unrated
