With Yizhen, Sloke and friends at Praelum.

Hello you, I underestimated you, you sly little thing. I was VERY skeptical of a 2019 Brunello. I deeply love Brunellos, but always found myself feeling like I didn’t do them justice when I drink them underaged. It’s like committing infanticide.

We decanted this for a solid 40 mins or so. Off the decanter, red fruits, not quite cherry. A wide nose. Beautiful really, but I was a touch disappointed: it felt over-oaked this time with this waft of sweet vanilla and wood.
That said, beautiful acidity and juicy ass mouthfeel. And the tannins were upfront and grippy as expected, but yet very very palatable.

Thankfully as the wine aerated in the glass, magic happened. That disappointing over-oaked characteristics calmed down and came into balance with the fruit. More important, a certain savory note almost like soy sauce developed, with distinct cherry and earthiness on the exhale. It was goooood.

On the palette, just solid. Nice juicy ass acidity. Perfectly palatable tannins. This could be beautiful in a few more years.

Very pleased with the discovery
