With Hart, Shaun, Maegan, James and Zi For belated birthday and ROM.

This was supposed to be the star of the show. The pontet 2010 was a 100 pointer. Costed us an arm and leg, and the raffles block had sunk in a considerable amount in this vintage.

The first weird thing that made me perk up was that the nose was tight and closed from the decanter. Ok.. odd. This was oak, cedar, vanilla, and a rich red fruit in the background. Deep red in color. Initial taste was a medium body, high acidity and an almost aggressive tannin.

2hrs 15 mins, the woodiness remained strong, the vanilla calmed down, and the red fruit emerged brighter and stronger. But there was something about the nose. Along the way we kept expecting it to open up further but it didn’t really develop much. Super disappointed

Look, the wine has the fruit and the acidity to develop further. Even with all this time, the wine tasted incredibly young, closed and quite honestly felt ‘dumbed down’. I was disappointed to say the least, but we agreed this had serious aging potential. That’s the downside of a “strong year”. Sometimes they’re just disappointing when young, but the potential is there and absolutely needed a lot of time to develop. The remaining bottles will remain untouched for at least another 5 years.

Tagging this 3.9(V), given how insanely expensive this is.
