Sean gushed about this wine some time back and I ended up grabbing a couple. Apparently this was an attempt by the Penfold folks to venture into French winemaking, but ultimately failed and that marked the end of the label.

In the glass, this was oddly enough a dark garnet, esp towards the rim. Odd.

In the nose: very mild plum, and strawberry on deeeep inhale. Oddly enough, I smelled cedar wood at the background, which is most unusual for a CDP. With more air, notes of raisin.

On the palate: this was higher acidity than most CDP, mid+ body, mild tannins that’s grippier than most CDP, and juicy long finish. There is a leaness and focus to the palette, unlike most CDP that tends to be very round.

I have to say I was surprised at how much I liked the wine. There’s the layers of complexity, and all these qualities that are very uncharacteristic of most CDP. Quality find.
