Christmas drinks at Sean’s. With Hart, Sean, Tabs, Steffi, KW et al.

This came at the strong recommendation of Nicholas. I trusted him so much that I somehow convinced myself to grab 4 at one go.

Fresh off the bottle, this was super surprising: this was a bright ruby and a lot of purple, with high concentration and seemingly full body. Most unusual for a gamay.

On the nose, this was a somewhat rich red fruit with blueberries, but it was very very closed.

The wine benefitted A LOT from 30 mins of aeration, and peaked at the 1 hour mark. Over time, the nose deepened, and the body gained structure.

The nose deepened into a blackcurrant.
On the palate: mid+ finish, mid+ acidity, mid body, grippy tannins, with cherry, spice and a very very mild vanilla on the exhale.
Despite being oddly high alcohol (14%) for a beajolais, it was extremely well integrated and was barely perceptible.

This is not a wine for complexity. Rather, it’s very fruit driven, but with the richness to make it very enticing. It’s also not a light fruity beajolais; there’s higher concentration and density on the nose and body. For the price, this is VERY excellent.
