3.8+ Frescobaldi Tenuta Perano Chianti Classico Riserva 2016.

Tenuta Perano Chianti Classico Riserva 2016. With Hart, David, Daniel x2.

Another label from Frescobaldi; this time a Sangiovese-dominant blend with Merlot.

In the glass: dark garnet with a touch of purple hue at the core. Clean filtered body with just a touch of translucence.

On the nose: holy shit high alcohol. Ripe red fruits of cherry and raspberry. Mint. Smells like a decently high amount of oak. Nose was actually quite beautiful.

On the palate: the alcohol is very noticeable. Fair amount of residual sugar – I consider it quite sweet. Palate is smooth with a nice tongue-coating silkiness. High acidity. Grippy tannins. Rich fruits.

Not sure I really detect any Merlot in this tbh. Perhaps that’s the body, but I’ve had several well oaked Chianti’s.

At this time, this wine is still too young, and the restaurant didn’t offer decanting. Both tannins and alcohol are somewhat out of balance and jarring, and could benefit for a lot of air and some age.
