I had encountered some remarkable St-Emilion wines last year, from the insane value Domaine de Chevalier, to the exceptional Pavie. It was enough to make me want to look at the right bank more.
Chateau Figeac was the only chateau that was elevated St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classes A in the 2022 reclassification. As it turns out, 2021 was also the first vintage vinified in the newly constructed winery. This specific bottle could be something special. The blend is 40% cab sauv, 31% cab franc, and 29% merlot. I suspect this is gonna fit my palate much better than the Canon. 100% new oak.
Chateau Canon is a Premier Grand Cru Classe B. Unlike Figeac, this is about 71% Merlot and 29% cab franc. Not sure how this fits my palate but I guess we will find out in 15 years LMAO. 50% new oak.
