At Don & Tiff’s gender reveal lunch.

I. Don’t. Understand. What. I’m. Tasting? It sorta like a Valtellina Nebbiolo but not really…? Huh?

In the glass: brickish garnet. Light bodied. Suspension very visible. This is clearly unfiltered.

On the nose: the first thing that struck me was this natural wine funk that stay persistent. I smelled a muted black pepper. Tar. Some kinda red fruit that I can’t place. Nose was VERY shy off the bottle, but intensified significantly after 1 hour. Sweet nose.

On the palate: absolutely bone dry in spite of the nose. Grippy tannins. Mid- finish. The thing that really threw me off is how low / mid- the acidity was. I can’t tell if my bottle was off, or if this was characteristic of the wine making. James pointed out there was a briney savory note at the finish.

On the exhale: faint strawberry and slightly more distinct rose. Still don’t recognize the red fruit.

I feel like objectively this was a pretty enjoyable wine with a killer nose (once it has opened up. Enjoyed the wine, wouldn’t pay 135 for it.
