Wine was courtesy of Jake.

The first and last time I had a Pichon Lalande, it was a 2004, and it was super disappointing. Thin. Muted nose. I don’t think anyone liked it much.

Served with a coravin with very limited aeration.

In the glass: again, a dark deep maroon. Dense, concentrated and inky.

On the nose: black currant, a sweet glycerin. Coconut/vanilla, a minty lift. Cedar back notes. Very aromatic.

On the palate: how very surprising. Despite the look in the glass, this was a mid- bodied wine that’s quite light on the palate, with a bright lift. Very very elegant. Mid acidity. Tannins are still very distinct in the wine – this, coupled with the leanness of the body, makes the tannin feel a bit more “protruding”, and could benefit from more age.

Overall, still an absolute baby of a wine. Quite interesting how despite that degree of concentration and extraction, the wine was still quite light and fresh.
