This is the second wine of Chateau Trotte Vieille, a St Emilion Premier GCC ‘B’, and was one of the wines at our Jakarta wedding reception.

In the glass, this was a dark garnet. Full bodied.

On the nose: puuuure blackberries and blackcurrant. This was extremely aromatic fresh off a bottle. Extremely primary, with notes of cedar, some sorta herbal tinge, and leather. That herbal tinge was SO distinct I wonder if this has an oddly high amount of cab franc. But that would be unusual. Dunno.

On the palate: medium bodied, and a VERY bright high acidity which surprised me. Unusual. Mid finish.

2014 has been this damn good overlooked vintage in BDX. And for a second wine? This was shockingly enjoyable and just had a remarkable purity of fruit. Not the most complex of course.

But the most remarkable and happiness-inducing part of this wine, was when Hart talked through her process of picking the wine for the menu and the guests. This was the same person who drank box wines and didn’t know much, and has now gone on to curate a wine pairing for a huge crowd, taking into account budget, the crowd’s palate, and different styles of wine. Just super proud of her.
