With the Wine Hoes at Shao Rangoon.
Sigh. 2019 is a GREAT (but perhaps overly hot) vintage. Pontet Canet has been one of our FAVORITE chateaus. But more than that, I’ve been DYING to try this. The Pontet 2019 was supposed to be an absolute monster of a wine, with a sublime 13.5% alc – a rarity in a vintage when the norm is 14-14.5%
Unfortunately, this was, sigh, the underwhelming wine of the night. Aerated for 1.5 hours in a decanter + 1 hr in bottle: this wine never really quite open up. I suppose this was simply far, far too young.

In the glass: dark inky ruby with a tinge of garnet. Full body.
On the nose: very primary with vague blackberries. Touch of plum. Some tiny earthiness. Tiny leather. Tight. Timid.
Palate: fared a touch better. Fair concentration. Mid+ acidity. Its saving grace was the beaaaatiful soft tannins, and fine alcohol.
Sigh. Just. Underwhelming. Too young perhaps. Sigh
