Part 1 of my 2020 sampler buy.

The 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux in general have been priced out of my budget for a long time now. The 2015 and 2016s are starting to get really unreasonable. So I’ve been spending a little bit of time on the 2019 and 2020s, but of course the downside is I won’t get to touch them for more than a decade.

The Margaux is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (89%), merlot (8%), petit verdot (2%) and cabernet franc (1%). Unlike the 2019, the 2020 came back to a reasonable 13.5% abv.

The Haut Brion is a blend of merlot (42.8%), cabernet sauvignon (39.7%) and cabernet franc (17.5%). I’m not entirely sure why the abv is 15%. While HB traditionally does have higher alc given it is significantly more southern than the Medoc region, the median is probably closer to 14ish%. Fingers crossed; I reckon this is gonna take years to soften. That said, the wine critics seem to think this is a ridiculously good wine
