With the crew at NYE celebration.
Wine from my stash. I’d been saving this for an occasion.

Sigh. Wine was uncorked and left to slow ox for about 1.5 hours because I read that this needed a bit of time. We also decided to front load the better wines early in the night before everyone got wine drunk.

First pour: just a tiny pour, to check on the progression of the aeration. what a nose. It was unexpectedly dark berries, rich, spicy. Yum. Promising, but it was still quite closed. Body was concentrated and a touch silky. High acidity. So much promise, and I was super excited to dig into it.
Unfortunately, the spicy food ruined my palate and I had to take a pause.
And then the bottle was. Gone. Never got to taste its progression.
Mini rant on wine-sharing etiquette: it’s simple math and consideration. A bottle is 750ml. Split hypothetical 6 ways, you have ~120ml per person. It isn’t much at all. Of course, expecting exact equitable distribution is silly and being overly calculative. But a reasonable and considerate party should naturally at least want others to have the opportunity to enjoy the bottle as well, instead of hogging the bottle with multiple big pours. Because, you know, that’s the point of sharing something.
