This was a wine that benefited from ample air in the bottle and glass. Had this initially with pasta and beef, and then revisited again at the end of the night.

In the glass: a deep rich dark ruby with high concentration.

On the nose: fresh off the bottle, this was a dense red plum with a giant jolt of Christmas spices and what seemed like a lot of stem. Perhaps a little disjointed. But oh with air? Everything just sorta sunk into place. The spices wriggled its way to the background. The red cherries and plums broadened out and being plusher. You could pick out this nice earthy tone. Very aromatic.

On the palate: high intensity of fruits. For some reason, the body came across a little thin initially, but felt like it also became plusher with air. Mid++ acidity, with a surprisingly assertive structure.

By the end of the night, this went from tight and slightly disjointed, to much more cohesive and plush. For the engineers out there: it’s like someone applied a low pass filter to a sound wave.

I’m unfortunately very uneducated about Burgs, so I wonder if this might’ve just benefited from a little more age.
