With Hart, Yz, Sloke, Liz, Malone and PT. Our first time back at the charming Nicolas le Restaurant after the ownership change. I am relieved to report that the place has largely retained its charm and obviously that selection of wine.

I tried looking for a bottle of Berthelemot’s Puligny-Montrachet the last time I was there, but was outta luck. This time around there was this lone bottle sitting there on the rack staring at me. I had to. Their 1er cru ‘Les Folatieres’ was such a stunning wine.

In the glass: pale gold. Clear.

On the nose: intense yet delicate balance. This wide field of mild flinty reduction, mild malo, intense white flowers, a certain ripeness in the yellow fruits in ~perfect balance~. Tiny touch of honey.

On the palate: silky, fresh, juicy, mid+ acidity, just the tiniest touch of residual sugar that complements the flowery nose. Ethereally aromatic on the exhale.

I’m not a big white burg guy (aside from Chablis which I adore) but there’s something specific about Domaine Berthelemot’s Puligny-Montrachet that I find absolutely beautiful and just deeply pleasurable for my palate.
