YZ introduced me to San Leonardo 06 some time last year. Bear in mind, this was a night where we had a delicious aged Cos d’Estournel. But that was the night when the winemaker got stuck in my head, and I began this unprecedented rabid hunt for cases of every vintage I could find, including vintages I had not even tasted before.
In any case, the night was staged in 3 flights: 1) F1: Carmenere 19, San Leonardo 19, 18, 17 2) F2: SL 16, 14, 13 3) F3: SL 05, 03, 99
All bottles were uncorked at 530pm, and we started making our way through them from 730pm.
Super fun vertical: unlike Bdx, Tuscany, Piedmont etc, I’m completely unfamiliar with the historical vintage reports. So this was a tasting based purely on, well, tasting. No prior vintage reports, no scores. Loved it.

Final rating: – WOTN: 2003 – #2: 2018 – next level: 05, 16, 99, 13, 14, 17, – TBD: 19
