Ampeau’s probably the one way I can taste a well made and old burg. And of all his wines, the Volnay has been my favorite

In the glass: light bodied, and well into the garnet brickish tones showing its age.

On the nose: touch of raisin, sweet red plums, super earthy. Of course, this savory tertiary funk consistent with the age. Interestingly, I’ve had 3 or 4 bottles of the 2002 Volnay, and this was the only one that came straight outta the bottle wide open, beautifully aromatic, and clean. All previous bottles had this immense bretty note that takes over an hour to air out.

On the palate: decent intensity, bright juicy acidity. Mid finish. Fresh and elegant on palate.

Had a blast. This is the last of my Ampeau’s unfortunately!
