I did NOT have high hopes here because 2006 was this meh vintage. But I was suuuper impressed by this bottling. This had way more concentration that I would’ve expected.

Bottle was slow oxed for about 4-5 hours.

In the glass: deep dark ruby-garnet with a touch of garnet around the rim.

On the nose: waft of deep rich barnyard funk that was relatively persistent, but clears out with air in the glass. So much blackcurrant and blackberries, and a lot of tobacco, and graphite. This was about as Pauillac as Pauillac get. Aside from the barnyard funk, it’s surprisingly early in its tertiary development, just peeking at the background.

On the palate: again, surprised at the concentration and intensity of fruit. Silky smooth body, with quick releasing tannins. Also surprised at how bright the acidity was.

This bottle has changed my impression of the 2006 vintage; perhaps a little prematurely but I’m an optimist. Shaun seemed to detect something off with it, although I must say I was much more enthusiastic about it.
