With Hart, YZ, Sloke, and Liz at the newly renovated Nicolas!

This turned out to be a surprisingly controversial wine for the evening, with half of the group ranking this dead last in the flight, and the other half really liking it. I really enjoyed the wine.

In the glass: bright gold. Clear.

On the nose: lemon rind, touch buttery malo, just a gentle waft of reductive flintiness.

On the palate: I thought this was where the magic was. At first glance, there is this silky richness, with an oily mid palate. But this quickly gets balanced by a warm glowing acidity, and a very distinct freshness and juiciness. There’s just this super enjoyable tension between richness and freshness that played out surprisingly well. It does have a touch of a lemon rind bitter finish at the end that I generally prefer not to have, but found it unoffensive in the context of the overall package.

Big fan.
