With Hart and the Crew at San Shu Gong for my birthday dinner.

It’s no secret I love Giscours. To be clear, this isn’t exactly an out-performing 3rd growth. But they make extremely beautiful wines, and remain very well priced.
The 2010 and 2015 are sublime.

This is my first 2014 bottling from the estate. It’s also no secret that I think 2008 and 2014 are generally criminally underrate vintages. Still, it’s always hard to predict how bottlings from that vintage will perform for the first time.

This is delicious.

In the glass: a deep rich ruby, with a small garnet rim. Fairly small meniscus.

On the nose: what a beautiful. Rich sweet dense blackcurrants, and a touch of sweet oak and this malo vanilla crème. There’s a touch of deep and surprisingly savory herbal mixed with a touch of flowers. Faint cedar that gives it an aromatic lift. For a 2014, this is still very primary, but is just starting to develop this nice savory tone. The fruits do become increasing red-toned with air.

On the palate: surprisingly bright mid++ acidity. High intensity of black berries. Mid+ finish that lingers. Good concentration, although more on mid bodied than full. Good structure, but I would consider the tannins to be well resolved.

What a tasty bugger.
