Pre-delivery dinner for Tofu girl at home.
Fresh off the bottle: off the nose, huge waft of rich vanilla. Dark fruit leaning to black currant. Leathery. Woody. In the glass, a rich bright red.
On the palette: leathery, bright red fruit with mid high acidity
As the wine developed, the wood and leather evolved into tobacco. Vanilla remained strong, although the rich red fruits came more into balance. Grippy but soft tannin.
This is a surprisingly surprisingly good value wine for the price – delicious young, and has layers to make it interesting. That said, clearly over oaked.
LATE EDIT: fruits have resurfaced and the vanilla has calmed down. Upgraded from 4 to 4.1. Truly high QPR
