3.7. Domaine A.F. Gros Moulin-a-Vent 'En Mortperay' 2021.

To try again at a later date. With hart at home.

Coravined a glass. This wine came at the recommendation of the Grand Cru staff as part of my adventure into Beaujolais.

In the glass, it was a pale ruby: a bright redness with a tinge of purple. Medium see through body. Off the nose freshly decanted, it was an energetic red fruit, a mineral Smokey tinge on the nose. Very nice.

On the palette, the immediate thing that struck me was the sheer degree of acidity. It was mouth watering, but felt to me almost way too aggressive. Mild grippy tannin that was very very pleasant and pleasurable. Huge waft of distinct cranberry. Mid- body.
There’s something in the nose that I don’t quite know how to place (another reason why I’ve been seriously thinking about buying an aroma kit) – I do know it was very nice.

Keen to retry this another time with more time. The wine was very pleasurable, aside from that shockingly stark acidity. Shame!

Updated 31 Oct: so as it turns out, this guy does benefit from a generous dose of aeration to help the nose bloom. The acidity does calm down a tiny touch, but man, it’s just off balance by a long shot.
