With Hart after we snuck off. What a dreadfully unbalanced wine.

We were eagerly searching for a nice wine bar to check out, and this was supposed to be one of the better spots in Penang. Oh, we were very very wrong. Pictures of their wine selection was misleading AF and it was. Poor.

Into the decanter, we could actually smell the wine. Wow. Promising. Alas. In the glass, it was a strong offensive poorly integrated alcohol. Nose of roses, red cherrys and just mainly overripe plums. reminded us of port.
On the palate: very very high acidity with mid finish. Mid+ tannins for a young Nebbiolo. Very strong unbalanced alcohol and ripe plums.

I desperately swirled the glass aggressively for a long time. And for a brief moment, it was fairly nice: the alcohol and overwhelming pruney raisiny port nose receded, and a tinge of wood came forward.

But ah. This was a dreadfully awful wine. Even at 14%, this was so woefully unbalanced, overripe and jammy. This was actually a great juxtaposition against the 2013 Lillian. While the Lillian was extremely high alcohol and POWERFUL, It remained in balance with the nose and palette.

Sigh, it’s been a long time since I had a beautiful barolo.
