With the wine hoes at home.

After the disappointing Pontet Canet 2019, I was apprehensive about this. Decanted right before I left for dinner, so this had about 2 hours of air.

In the glass: deep dark ruby, with a tinge of purple. Extremely high concentration, with legs that stained the glass.

On the nose: wow… highly aromatic. Extremely primary with intense blackberries, dark cherries and a sweet glycerin. A somewhat savory note that dissipated in the glass. Thin graphite. Spices. Despite the scary 14.5% alcohol, this was supremely well integrated. Wow.

On the palate: powerful, full bodied but somehow also lively on the palate with bright acidity. Palate coating. Long finish. Grippy tannins as to be expected of a young BDX. Dry. Warm alcohol at the back palate, but absolutely not offensive at all. Just remarkably well integrated alcohol.

On the exhale: deep rich blackberries, with menthol lift.

This was a beaaautiful wine. That said, it’s still way young, and as such was extremely primary with so much room for complexity to develop. Impressive.
