From the folks at Chateau Leoville las Cases.
This was the red wine for our wedding, and my star of the show.
I had asked the folks at @claudinerestaurant to help me source for this specific bottling. It’s a phenomenal wine making team, good terroir, good vines, in a criminally underrated vintage. I didn’t have high hopes, but the team really pulled through with it :’)
Unlike my previous bottle, which was tobacco dominant fresh off the bottle and required a ton of air for the fruits to develop, the wines this evening carried their fruits more readily upfront in both the aerated and fresh bottles. The good folks at Claudine also accommodated my request to open several bottles at 6pm, ahead of the scheduled dinner start time at 7ish pm, and the meat course closer to 830/9pm.
I loved the wine. Rich blackcurrant and blackberries. Such purity of fruits. Tobacco. Mild sweet oak. Palate coating. Long finish.
I grabbed a couple of cases that are now en route from France. Hoping to crack one for our anniversaries in the years ahead.
