Wine from my recent purchase.
This marks a series of 3 wines with very uncommon, and novel grapes that we rarely ever touch. This Barbera was something I would NOT usually buy. For one, it’s far too expensive for a Barbera. For another, this bottling had an insane 16% abv. If you know me, I do not enjoy elevated alcohol.

In the glass: a maroon body with garnet rim. Quite a high extraction. Mid bodied.
On the nose: dark cherries. Very ripe plum. Licorice. A distinct earthy herbal note. Spices. On the inhale, noticeable alcohol but not offensive.
On the palate: bone dry. High intensity of fruits. Elevated alcohol.
On the exhale: blisteringly warm alcohol. I did not enjoy it.
With air, the alcohol does temper down a little.
Overall, the wine was quite beautiful on the nose, with good fruits and complexity. But that alcohol is way out of whack. Nope.
