With Hart, YZ, Sloke at @thewinemonk tasting.
The transition from 2019 to 2018 was the first holy shit moment of the night. Let me tell you: this 2018 was STUNNING.

Unlike the meek 2019, the nose here was deep, rich, and very intense. This was still very primary + secondary dominant, which is expected given the age: blackcurrant, blackberries. Gorgeous and perfect use of oak. Touch of tobacco at the background. Some kinda floral note. Man this was beautiful.
Grippy tannins, but this was very palatable. Lush and intense on palate. Earthiness. Loooong finish.
Despite SL’s rep for needing many years of aging, my takeaway here was that this these can drink very well even with just 8 years of age. But of course, as I’ve come to learn, my sweet spot for these are probably in the 15-20 years range. So patience is required.
