With Hart, YZ and Sloke at the @thewinemonk tasting.

First San Leonardo flagship blend of the night. Not much sense in having a full tasting notes for the next 9, so I’ll just focus on key features.

The transition from the Carmenere to this was a big jump: much deeper, darker and more intense fruits. Plusher on the nose and the palate. I’m unfamiliar with the wine making, but there seems to be more oak here, but balanced by the higher intensity of fruits.

Grippy tannins. Still a baby. Distinct menthol freshness that I’ve come to associate as the hallmark of San Leonardo wine.

Unfortunately, the wine felt asleep to me, or perhaps too young. The nose was very very meek relative to the bottles after, even with a total of 6 hours of air in the bottle. To revisit in 2027.
