A random mid day tipple. The original plan was to have some sips while we were at the tailor’s for our fitting, but there was a change of plans.

Whaaaaaat a beautifully aged wine. Stunning and complex.

Good healthy fill level well above the shoulder, esp for a 1990.

Cork was in great shape; the breakage was purely my user error. Bottle was uncorked and slow-oxed over 2 hours and drank over 2ish hours.

In the glass: deep dark garnet, with bright orange around the rim. Clear age.

On the nose: fresh off the bottle, a deep rich barnyard funk that remained persistent. As the wine breathed, the funk slowly aired out. Intense aromatic nose of dried red fruits x licorice, with a distinct earthy note. Lean aromatic oak, with a lot of leather, damp tobacco. YZ got a lot of smokiness, but I didn’t. As the wine breathed in the glass: that dried red fruits intensified and sweetened. This wine had incredible stamina in the glass, and only got better with air.

On the palate: how very impressive. High intensity of fruits, with mid body. I was surprised by how energetic the wine was: mid+ acidity, and a surprisingly good structure. Tannins were noticeable, but fully resolved. Mid+ finish.

This is representative of the beauty of aged Bordeaux.
